William Bat Masterson was a legend in the Wild West of the late 1800s, but he has retired from all that now. In 1919, he lives in New York and earns his a living as a sports journalist. Given an opportunity to tell his life story, Bat begins a pilgrimage across a very different America than the one he roamed in his youth, reliving his memories and trying to understand his place in the rapidly changing landscape of public opinion.
