Director Luis Fernandez de la Reguera chronicles the storied but troubled life of indie actor-comedian Rockets Redglare (aka Michael Morra) in this biographical documentary produced by Steve Buscemi. Born in New York City to a 15-year-old heroin addict and a criminal father with ties to the Italian mafia, Morra's childhood was marred by prenatal drug addiction and the murder of his mother at the hands of her abusive junkie boyfriend. Transforming this tragic past into a comic persona he dubbed Rockets Redglare, Morra exorcised his demons through the 1980s East Village art scene, performing standup comedy with his friend Buscemi, acting in films by directors Jim Jarmusch, Alexandre Rockwell, and Julian Schnabel--even serving as drug dealer to punk rocker Sid Vicious and bodyguard to artist Jean-Michel Basquiat before dying of liver failure at the age of 52.
