Sarah Canary
Ms. Fowler has masterfully embedded her ideas about perception within a rousing, completely satisfying entertainment. The layers to this book are many, finely wrought, subtle, and beautifully timed. They play off one another internally; they glint and occasionally dazzle us with the light which can only emulate from our recognition of ourselves in the mirror that is SARAH CANARY.

Tsukushi is a 16-year-old girl with a lot of heart in this animated manga series. Though she hails from the wrong side of the tracks, she has been chosen to attend an elite private school populated by the very rich, and the series centers around the difficulties in dealing with her differences from her peers. Upon her arrival, she got off to a less-than-fortuitous start when she stood up to the F4, the group of older boys who rule the school. Though one of them, Domyoji, falls for her in the process, Tsukushi develops an attraction to another, putting into play a love triangle that will drive the story. In this volume, the plucky heroine is preparing for the Teen of Japan contest, and her sister, Tsubaki, has arranged for her to be tutored in everything she needs to know. Unfortunately, this requires that she stay in the Domyoji mansion while she studies!
